Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) organized a joint- discussion meeting with five Rural Municipalities – Malamchi Municipality, Jugal Rural Municipality, Panchpokhari Thangpal Rural Municipality, Helambu Rural Municipality and Indrawati Rural Municipality on January 9 to establish Trekker’s Information Management System (TIMS) check Post.
“Having a centralized database containing information on trekkers and trekking routes are useful in maintaining the trekkers’ safety and security, TIMS card is must to be issued by all trekkers”, President Mr. Khum Bahahdur Subedi highlighted upon importance of TIMS and advised all 5 representatives of Rural Municipality to joint hands together for TIMS check post establishment and develop a feedback form for tourists.
Mr. Damber Aryal, Mayor of Melamchi Municipality expressing on importance of information center at Melamchi for providing information to tourists. “Melamchi being a nearer touristic destination” he said Melamchi can be a tourist’s hub. He informed about their plans for establishing local poultry hatchery and introduce it as a product.
Speaking in the meeting, Mr. Prem Tamang, Ward Chairman of Jugal Rural Municipality said that with the joint support of TAAN and other tourism expertise, effective tourism promotion and development is possible in entire five rural municipality.
Meanwhile, Chairman of Panchpokhari Rural Municipality, Mr. Tashi Lama drew the attention at Panchpokhari being one of the best touristic destination. Expecting technical as well as physical aid from TAAN, Chairman Lama assured their full participation for the tourism development.
Mr. Nima Gyalzen Sherpa, Chairman of Helambu Rural Municipality expressed the probability of launching Ski- training center at Jugal, Helambu and Panchpokhari.
Chairman of Indrawati Rural Municipality Mr. Jiwan Thapa assumes valuable suggestions from TAAN to facilitate tourism promotion at the respective trekking region.
TAAN Secretary Mr. Damodar Dhakal proposed to organize a FAM Trip and develop a standardized tourism product.
Thus, the meeting concluded to establish TIMS Check post and information center at touristic hub Melamchi and Kutumsang within 1st February 2020 to keep up to date data of trekkers to ensure their safety and security. TAAN General Secretary Mrs. Sarita Lama assured to draft a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to start TIMS check post at Melamchi and Kutumsang.
TAAN Treasurer Ms. Ritu Gyamdan, TAAN Executive Member Mr. Thakur Prasad Sapkota, Chairman of Tourism Department of Panchpokhari Rural Municipality Mr. Subas Tamang and Member Tourism committee of all five Rural Municipality Mr. Sunil Tamang were also present in the meeting.
