Mr. Feng Shaolin, First Secretary at the Embassy of China paid a visit to TAAN Secretariat on 8 March to discuss about trekking and its safety issues. Mr. Feng met with President Mr. Nava Raj Dahal and Senior Vice President Khum Bahadur Subedi on the occasion.
Taking a keen interest in trekking activity, Mr. Feng inquired about the risk of trekking in the Himalayan region and the role of TAAN and other tourism related bodies in minimizing adventure mishaps in the Himalayas. President Dahal informed Mr. Feng about Trekking Information Management System (TIMS) jointly operated by Nepal Tourism Board and TAAN to ensure safety of trekkers in the Himalayas. He also apprised Mr Feng to inform Chinese trekkers to book trekking through registered trekking companies and take licensed guide while trekking in the Himalayan region.
President Dahal also took the opportunity to raise the issue of opening borders especially Tatopani, Kerung and Purang to facilitate the tourists travelling from Nepal to Tibet (China). He further requested the first secretary to issue advance notice in the event of closing of Tibet for travellers so tour operators can take timely decision.
The President offered a special token of gift to First Secretary Mr. Feng on parting.
