Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) celebrated a grand TAAN- Joint Lhosar Cultural Program on February 7, 2019 at Lainchaur Banquet, Kathmandu.
TAAN has been organizing this festival to establish solidarity and unity among Nepalese tourism fraternity. The celebration is also an opportunity to bring members of all communities and promote ethnic harmony and brotherhood. TAAN Joint Lhosar has become a flagship calendar event of TAAN where participants can also share ideas and interact in a light-hearted social setting.
Honorable Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Mr. Rabindra Adhikari inaugurated the program. MoCTCA Secretary Mr. Krishna Prasad Devkota, Director General of Department of Tourism Mr. Danduraj Ghimire, Her Excellency Swarna Perera from the Embassy of Sri Lanka, His Excellency François – Xavier Leger Embassy of France and Ms. Kathrin Luger from German Embassy also took part in the event.
The evening featured cultural performances by Tamang, Gurung, Hyolmo and Sherpa communities, satire and parody by senior comedy actors Mr. Shiva Poudel and Kiran KC and song dance sequence by renowned singers & dancers.
In addressing the program, Minister Adhikari claimed that the government is getting serious for Nepal’s tourism promotion and development of the country. He further emphasized that the tourism sector would be miserable due to promotion of Fake Rescue Case, Widebody issue and other issues in the depths. He said that the investigation was being carried out on the corruption in Widebody procurement, saying that there would be no need to keep the guilty on the legal hand, because the investigation was being carried out. He urged that the government and the private sector should play their role in resolving the problems of tourism sector.
On the occasion, TAAN President Mr. Nava Raj Dahal presented the attention of the Minister for long-standing problems in tourism like illegal trekking operation, expensive permit fees at restricted areas, trekking package getting expensive due to excessive TAX- VAT rate, ineffective implementation of TIMS. “We have enough knowledge about tourism but effective implementation cannot be carried out due to lack of budget”, saying he appealed government to provide necessary budget for tourism industry. He highlighted to establish cultural tourism and promote TAAN Joint- Lhosar as a tourism product in future.
TAAN General Secretary Ang Pemba Sherpa said that the majority of the trekking entrepreneurs being Sherpa, Gurung, Tamang, Holymo & others; TAAN has been celebrating Joint- Lhosar as a tourism product to preserve the Nepalese tradition and culture.
Speaking at the program, Sports & Event Management Coordinator Ritu Gyamdan said that TAAN has organized Joint Lhosar Cultural Program to establish Lhosar as cultural tourism product. She further thanked all those who helped and cooperate by emphasizing the need for such programs to be held in a grand way.
The program was participated by over 500 people which includes government officials, diplomats, INGOs, tourism associations, member agencies and journalists.
