President Dhamala attends Nepal-Tibet joint meeting

Trekking Agencies' Association of Nepal (TAAN) President Ramesh Prasad Dhamala attended 8th Nepal-Tibet Joint Tourism Coordination Committee Meeting held in Lhasa from December 23 to 27.

Tulsi Prasad Gautam, director general of Department of Tourism (DoT), had led a 16-member Nepali delegation in the meeting. Similarly, Zeng Wanming, vice chairman of Tibet Autonomous Region of China, had led a 21-member Chinese delegation in the meeting.

Among others, the meeting decided to allow their citizens to travel to the border towns of each other for single-day visits without the need for a visa. Citizens of two countries will also be allowed to take their vehicles during such travels. The visits, however, will be allowed through Tatopani-Zhangmu and Rasuwagadhi-Keirung border points, according to a statement issued by DoT.

The two sides have also agreed to build necessary infrastructure in their respective border areas, according to Dhamala. "The two sides also agreed to raise the frequency of Kathmandu-Lhasa and Lhasa-Kathmandu flights. Similarly, Nepal and China have agreed to identify new mountains located at the border of the two countries and promote them," said Dhamala.

The ninth meeting of the committee will be held in Kathmandu in 2015.
