Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) together with Trekking Agencies’
Association of Nepal (TAAN) and Nepal Mountaineering Association, among others,
organized a tourism promotional campaign in Johannesburgh of South Africa on
This is Nepal’s first promotional initiative in the African continent.
The Nepali travel delegation organized ‘Nepal Night’ in Johannesburg. Members of ‘Seven Summits Women Team’ also made presentation on the occasion. The promotional program coincided with the successful summit of Mt Kilimanjaro – the tallest peak on African subcontinent.
Members of the ‘Seven Summits Women Team’ reached the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro on March 8. They were joined by some Tanzanian women climbers. TAAN had provided monetary assistance of US$ 5,000 to the team.
“The ‘Nepal Night’ became very successful in promoting Nepal. It saw participation of senior South African diplomats, Everest summiteers from South Africa and travel trade people from South Africa,” TAAN President Mahendra Singh Thapa, who participated in the program, said. “Nepalese Embassy in South Africa and South Africa chapter of Non-Resident Nepalese Association played an active role in making the program a grand success.”
Thapa also said the event got good coverage in local media. TAAN Executive Member Saroj Neupane also participated in the program.
“The trip was successful. The South African market holds great potential for Nepal. We should focus more on marketing and promotion if we are to attract South African tourists here,” added Thapa.
