Basic trekking guide training concludes

A four-day ‘Basic Trekking Guide
Training’ organized by Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) concluded
on March 16.
TAAN organized the training as a
refresher course for working trekking guides. The training covered issues like
leadership; communication; hazards, safety and weather; and map and navigation.
The training was held at TAAN Secretariat, Maligaun. Practical session of map
and navigation training was conducted at Shivapuri National Park. Altogether 26
participants from different member agencies of TAAN participated in the
Machhindra Acharya, coordinator
of the training, said the main objective of the training was to impart guiding
skills on assistant trekking guides who have not taken any guide training so
far. “As the training is based on active learning method, it will help boost
confidence of the participants and enhance their communication skills,” Acharya
Ian Wall was the master trainer of the training
while Machhindra Acharya, Mani Kumar Rai, Binayak Jaya Malla, Ramesh Paneru,
Karma Sherpa and Sabin Dangol were the facilitators. The facilitators were the
products of ‘Training for the Trainers’ organized by SNV Nepal in Dec-Jan.
