Basic trekking guide training concludes

A four-day ‘Basic Trekking Guide Training’ organized by Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) concluded on March 16.

TAAN organized the training as a refresher course for working trekking guides. The training covered issues like leadership; communication; hazards, safety and weather; and map and navigation. The training was held at TAAN Secretariat, Maligaun. Practical session of map and navigation training was conducted at Shivapuri National Park. Altogether 26 participants from different member agencies of TAAN participated in the training.

Machhindra Acharya, coordinator of the training, said the main objective of the training was to impart guiding skills on assistant trekking guides who have not taken any guide training so far. “As the training is based on active learning method, it will help boost confidence of the participants and enhance their communication skills,” Acharya said.

Ian Wall was the master trainer of the training while Machhindra Acharya, Mani Kumar Rai, Binayak Jaya Malla, Ramesh Paneru, Karma Sherpa and Sabin Dangol were the facilitators. The facilitators were the products of ‘Training for the Trainers’ organized by SNV Nepal in Dec-Jan.
