49th anniversary of first ascent of Mt. Manaslu marked

The 49th anniversary of the first successful summit of Mt. Manaslu by Nepali and Japanese mountaineers was commemorated by organizing a variety of programmes in the capital on Monday (May 9).
The day that added a milestone in the friendly relationship between Nepal and Japan is being observed as the Manaslu Day since the past few years.
Gyalzen Norbu Sherpa of Nepal and Toshio Imanishi of Japan had successfully scaled the 8162-meter high Mt. Manaslu on May 9, 1953.
Marking the occasion, a programme was organized here today in honor of the Japanese working in various sectors in Nepal.
At the felicitation program, a documentary on Mt. Manaslu was screened while local artists presented a variety cultural program.
