22 teams to participate in TAAN Int’l Eco-Challenge

Twenty-two teams, including a foreign team, are participating in the 1st TAAN Eco-Challenge 2013 being held in Kathmandu on August 17.The Eco-Challenge is a team event comprising three sporting events – running cycling and rafting. Each team has five participants including a team manager who will not participate in the sporting events. All four participants will first run on the 6.5-kilometer track from Tokha to Pani Muhan and cycle on the 14.5-kilometer track in the Shivapuri-Nagarjun National Park. A six-day photography training organized by Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) concluded on August 12.Participants from 13 member agencies of TAAN participated in the training. Tourist arrivals slightly up in July

Tourist arrivals to Nepal via air in the month of July increased by 0.28 per cent to 38,560 compared to the same month last year, according to figures released by Immigration Office, Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).According to a press statement issued by Nepal Tourism Board, the arrivals from South Asian region have shown mixed performance. The arrivals from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have increased by 32.26 percent and 61.68 percent respectively, whereas tourists from India and Pakistan declined by 15.74 percent and 57.76 percent respectively.Similarly, arrivals from Asia (other than South Asia) recorded positive growth of 14.36 percent with China…

Tourism programs included in budget 2013/14

The budget for fiscal year 2013/14, which the government unveiled on July 14, has put priority on infrastructure development. The government has allocated Rs 630 million to develop eco-friendly tourism destinations and explore new trekking trails in different parts of the country. Tourist arrivals down 3.9% in first half of 2013

Number of tourists to Nepal via air in the first half of 2013 recorded a drop of 3.9 percent compared to arrival figures of the first six months of 2012.According to Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), a total of 282,429 tourists came to Nepal in the first six months of 2913 compared to 294,019 recorded in the first half of 2012.The drop in tourist arrivals was mainly due to fewer arrivals from South Asia, which holds around 35 percent share in total tourist arrival. Govt waives off climbing permit for five more years

The government has decided to waive off climbing permit fee for mountain peaks in mid and far western regions for five more years effective from July 16.Sending a notification to Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN), Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) said it decided to extend royalty waiver after witnessing significant rise in trekking and mountaineering activities in mid and far western region over the past five years.Earlier, the government had waived off climbing permit fee for mountain peaks in mid and far western region for five years starting July, 2008.TAAN had been lobbying with MoCTCA for…

The 10-day Everest trail cleanup campaign concluded on June 1.Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) organized the cleanup campaign on the occasion of Diamond Jubilee Celebration of the First Ascent of Mt Everest and World Environment Day.TAAN staffer Devendra Dangol led the 15-member team.
