Trekking Agencies' Association of Nepal (TAAN) held a joint meeting with representatives of tourism worker unions in the presence of representatives of Department of Labor, Department of Industry, and Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) as well as trade union of three major political parties.
The meeting was organized to discuss on 15-point demand placed at TAAN by different union of tourism workers. Among others, the tourism worker unions have demanded pay hike as well as increase in insurance coverage.
The meeting was facilitated by Central Labor Advisory Committee under the Department of Labor.
"We organized a joint meeting with major stakeholders to address demands of workers in a more practical manner," TAAN President Chandra Prasad Rijal said after the meeting. "All the participants have termed it as a positive beginning."
The meeting, however, could not reach to any conclusion. The participants have decided that they would sit for another round of meeting on November 7 and also invite representatives of the Department of Tourism as well as the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB).
Officials of General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions (Gefont), Nepal Trade Union Congress and All Nepal Trade Union Federation (Revolutionary) were also present in the meeting.
Along with President Rijal, General Secretary Karna Bahadur Lama and CEO Tek Bahadur Mahat represented TAAN in the meeting.
