Tourism fraternity of the country celebrated World Tourism Day 2015 by organizing different programs throughout the country.
A colorful procession was taken out from Thamel in the morning of September. Different travel trade associations participated in the rally with their respective banners. Similarly, Magars, Gurungs and Tharus showcased their traditional dances. Police band and panche baja troupes led the procession. The rally passed through Durbar Marg, Jamal, Kamalchhi, Ason, Indra Chowk, Basantapur and Rantapark before culminating into a program at Nepal Tourism Board (NTB).
Trekking Agencies' Association of Nepal (TAAN) participated in the program with gusto. TAAN office-bearers and executive members, general members, as well as staffers participated in the procession.
Speaking at the program, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Kripasur Sherpa said joint efforts should be made for promotion of Nepali tourism industry. He also said all stakeholders should work in tandem to identify, explore, development and promote new tourist destinations across the country.
On the occasion, Minister Sherpa declared Amaltari (Nawalparasi), Hemjakot (Kaski), and Todke (Myagdi) villages as 'Village Tourism Destination of the Year'.
Meanwhile, the government also awarded Hyatt Regency Kathmandu, Himalayan Encounters and Flight Connection International for becoming the highest foreign currency earner in hotels, trekking agency and travel agency category, respectively.
TAAN has been celebrating World Tourism Day by organizing various events every year. The theme of this year's World Tourism Day celebration was 'One Billion Tourists, One Billion Opportunities'.
