The Earthquake Response Team (ERT) of Trekking Agencies' Association of Nepal (TAAN) has set up two base camps at Bhalche of Nuwakot and Mungchet of Rasuwa districts for distributing food in Sertung and Tipling VDCs of Dhading districts.
For Tipling VDC, it has set up base camp ad Mungchet and Camp I at Somdang. Similarly for Sertung VDC, base camp has been set up at Bhalche and Camp I at Rupchet.
TAAN is managing portering service for distribution of food in Sertung and Tipling VDCs of Dhading districts as per the agreement with United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). It takes two days to reach these VDCs from the base camps.
As per the agreement with WFP, TAAN is distributing food in 847 households in Sertung and 488 households in Tipling. These VDCs are among the most remote VDCs of Dhading. Locals need to walk for two days to reach the nearest motorable road from these villages.
TAAN will first ferry food to the base camps from Dhadingbesi on trucks. From base camps, porters will carry food to Camp I and distribution centers in each VDC.
"Under the program, altogether 1,200 workdays will be created for Sertung and 700 workdays for Tipling. TAAN will engage porters for four days. For the wellbeing of the porters, TAAN has insured all the workers. Supervisors accompany them with first aid kit and other necessary help," said Kul Bahadur Gurung, second vice president of TAAN and coordinator of the project.
The portering service will not only distribute necessary food aid to earthquake victims but will also provide local people the opportunity to earn some money and help their respective families recover from the earthquake.
