Guinness record for Nepali woman mountaineer
February 27 , 2013
Nepali mountaineer Chhurim Sherpa has entered the
record book by climbing Mt Everest twice in the same season.
According to Guinness World Records, she is the
first woman to climb the world's highest mountain twice in the same season.
Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Posta
Bahadur Bogati handed over the Guinness World Records certificate to the 29-year-old
mountaineer amid a program held in Kathmandu on February 25.
Chhurim, who hails from Solukhumbu, had reached
the 8,848-meter summit on May 12, 2012 and again on May 19, 2012.
More than 4,000 mountaineers have reached the
summit of Mt Everest since Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and New Zealander Edmund
Hillary reached the summit in 1953. But only a few of them are women.
