Tourist arrivals show upward trend in January

The first month of 2006 was encouraging for the Nepalese travel trade industry. The number of tourists, who visited Nepal by air in January 2006, increased by about 15 per cent, as compared to the figure of the corresponding month of last year.
Arrivals from India shot by around 32 per cent in the same month in comparison with the number of the same month of 2005, according to the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA).
Of the total 21,807 tourists who travelled to this Himalayan country last month, the number of Indians stood at 7,707.
