Meghauli festival begins

With a view to promoting Meghauli as a destination for domestic as well as foreign visitors, a five-day Meghauli festival started in Meghauli from January 28, 2006.

Opening the festival, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Mr. Shankar Prasad Koirala said that the government was ready to formulate a tourism plan and implement it so as to develop and promote Meghauli as a tourist destination.

Being organised jointly by Meghauli Village Development Committee, Meghauli Tourism Committee, and Meghauli Buffer Zone Forest Consumers Committee, more than 125 stalls have been on display at the festival.

The area could attract more tourists, as it is rich in culture. Besides, the area is suitable for watching wildlife because it is close to the Royal Chitwan National Park.
