JTCC announces weeklong protest programs against NTB

Joint Tourism Coordination Committee (JTCC), which has been launching protest against Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), has launched weeklong protest, starting Wednesday.JTCC Coordinator Ramesh Dhamala announced the protest programs at a press meet held in Kathmandu on Tuesday.The committee decided to heighten its protest after Tourism Secretary Sushil Ghimire used threatening words instead of taking initiatives to resolve the issue in the meeting held on Monday. National Tourism Fair postponed

The 6th National Tourism Fair, scheduled to begin in Kathmandu from May 2, has been postponed. A joint meeting of Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA), Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and Joint Tourism Coordination Committee (JTCC) held on Monday decided to postpone the fair until further notice. The fair was postponed after JTCC, a forum of 20 travel trade associations, made it clear that it would boycott the fair, unless its demands were addressed. JTCC has claimed that NTB was organizing the fair without consulting with the private sector.JTCC had submitted a four-point memorandum to MoCTCA on April 22. Families of missing trekkers have urged the government for more support to ascertain whereabouts of their beloved ones.Speaking at a press meet organized by TAAN, families of Aubrey Caroline Sacco, Zisimos Souflas and Matthews Allpress requested government officials, security agencies and travel trade entrepreneurs to intensify search for their missing sons and daughters. Everest avalanche claims 12 lives

Updated at: 3:30 pmAs many as 12 mountaineering workers were killed when an avalanche swept away climbing parties at 5,800 meters, just below Camp II, of Mt Everest on Friday morning.Dipendra Poudel of Trekking and Mountaineering Section under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) confirmed the deaths.The identity of the deceased, however, is yet to be ascertained. Everest death toll rises to 13

Death toll in the Everest avalanche rose to 13 on Saturday after rescuers recovered body of another Nepali mountaineering worker.Rescue team recovered the body of Dorjee Khatri of Lelep VDC-9 in Taplejung district. His body has already been airlifted to Kathmandu. Bodies of 12 mountaineering workers were recovered on Friday. Three other are still missing, while six others are injured. The injured are receiving treatment at different hospitals in Kathmandu.Ten of the deceased are from Solukhumbu, two from Sankhuwasabha, and one from Taplejung. Airfare for domestic destinations have become dearer by around two percent with effect from March 17.Domestic airlines raised the airfare after Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) hiked price of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) by around Rs 6 per liter to Rs 143.A meeting of Airlines Operators Association of Nepal (AOAN) had taken the decision to raise airfare on March 14.The government allows doemstic airlines to hike fuel surchage if ATF price his hiked by more than Rs 4 per liter.The decision means airfare has increased in the range of Rs 65 to Rs 235 depending on routes.
