Three missing in Kanchanjunga avalanche

An Indian mountaineer and two Nepali Sherpa guides have gone missing when an avalanche struck their expedition at 7,500 meters near Camp IV of Kanchanjunga West, also known as Yalung Kang, on Monday.Chanda Gayen of West Bengal state of India and the two Sherpas – Pema Sherpa and Dawa Wangchu Sherpa -- were attempting to climb Kanchanjunga West after successful summit of Kanchanjunga Main when the incident occurred, according to Mingma Sherpa, the owner of Seven Summits Trek that operated the expedition.Deepak KC of mountaineering section at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation has confirmed the accident.“We sent…

Agitating travel trade entrepreneurs have begun a six-day relay hunger strike on the premises of Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) to pile pressure on the government to address their demands.Organizing a press meet in Kathmandu on Thursday, Joint Tourism Coordination Committee (JTCC) unveiled second phase of protest programs.As per the protest program, 25 representatives of different travel trade associations started 12-hour hunger strike from Thursday itself. The 6th National Tourism Fair, scheduled to begin in Kathmandu from May 2, has been postponed. A joint meeting of Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA), Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and Joint Tourism Coordination Committee (JTCC) held on Monday decided to postpone the fair until further notice. The fair was postponed after JTCC, a forum of 20 travel trade associations, made it clear that it would boycott the fair, unless its demands were addressed. JTCC has claimed that NTB was organizing the fair without consulting with the private sector.JTCC had submitted a four-point memorandum to MoCTCA on April 22. Everest death toll rises to 13

Death toll in the Everest avalanche rose to 13 on Saturday after rescuers recovered body of another Nepali mountaineering worker.Rescue team recovered the body of Dorjee Khatri of Lelep VDC-9 in Taplejung district. His body has already been airlifted to Kathmandu. Bodies of 12 mountaineering workers were recovered on Friday. Three other are still missing, while six others are injured. The injured are receiving treatment at different hospitals in Kathmandu.Ten of the deceased are from Solukhumbu, two from Sankhuwasabha, and one from Taplejung.
